Jai Ho‘s music has no novelty. Not that we go in expecting innovativeness from the music of a Salman Khan film but Sajid-Wajid has never disappointed us so much. Using the most tested and successful beats of their previous works, the music director duo did not have one interesting song to offer in terms of beats, words or rhythm. In times when ‘Gandi Baat’ is the most popular lyrics of the year and disappointing melodies are becoming a norm, Jai Ho merely piles on to the long list of extremely mediocre songs. Though Salman’s films run on his star value, the music shows very little promise in translating the same formula of success.
The album kicks off with a song that is definitely the album’s best offering. With quirky lyrics that works on a specific agenda, the song isn’t overtly impressive because of its repetitive beats but it nevertheless entertains you. We can safely bet that this will be one of the popular satirical songs of recent times! Being well intentioned, that song will work for its ability to resonate the feelings that are bubbling in the sub conscience of every Indian.
And much to our misfortune, Himesh Reshammiya is back at the vocals. ‘Photocopy’ is a shabbily written and hammily executed piece that makes no sense! The concept of melody has definitely become obsolete in popular music. ‘Photocopy’ with its pathetic lyrics tries to get folksy but misses the vibrancy that Munni rendered to its beats! There is an absolute lack of raunchiness which was expected from a piece like this. I was definitely not amused!
Shaan and Shreya Ghosal do their best to pull off a dismally failed song with poise. The duo try to add variance to the tonal quality of the song but misses to be an engaging track. The vocals and music are well synced but doesn’t come across as aptly emotional as it was intended to. For me any song that has some charm to it will work, but this one clearly misses that mark!
If you have heard P.S I Love You’s track of the same name then this one is just a damp show for you. Titled ‘Love You Till The End’, the song’s beats are ripped out of a popular international track. Though it is commendable that they use the feel of house music in Bollywood, the attempt is too naive to garner praises.
This one is a more composed version of the above track! I liked the lyrics of it but the rendering is very amateurishly done. Sometimes the perfect words can go wrong with bad music. This song is too shallow for my taste. A certain prowess I was seeking was clearly missing.
Lamentably enough, this one won’t provoke you to dance at all. Lame lyrics and bad beats, this song is just reflective of the terrible musical taste of the music composers. After giving a variety of really interesting songs, I feel lost when subjected to this certain Naacho Re!
Sung by Wajid and Armaan Malik, this is another rarity in this album. By which I intend to imply that this is a smooth and hearable number. Tasteful in both words and sound’s department, this track has a fine use of melody which makes it good. I almost found it lovable but then there will be few takers for a song like this.
This isn’t a music album in which Salman Khan will get much scope to have a blast but for his fans that won’t be remotely deterring. For someone like me who has the tendency to seek ear soothers in every album, Jai Ho is not even close to first. I am going with a 1.5/5 for this album. Poor show but Thank God Salman’s antics can be banked upon to make up for all the damage done here!
