Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s Tamasha directed by Imtiaz Ali is termed as one of the best Hindi films. The film might have not made a good collection at the box office in 2015, but whoever watches the film only ends up praising it.

There are a lot of reasons why Tamasha stands out as the best of Imtiaz Ali. From the storyline to music to performances and dialogues, everything in the film is hard-hitting, connecting and takes you in some deep and emotional world. Talking about performance and music, one scene that every Tamasha fan lover can never get enough of breaks their heart is the break-up scene between Ranbir and Deepika’s Ved and Tara.

In the film, Ved breaks up with Tara in the cafe and she breaks down. She tries her best to make him stay and win his trust that everything will be fine, but Ved isn’t willing to give it a chance. With Alka Yagnik and Arijit Singh’s ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ playing in the background and Deepika Padukone’s stellar act of crying and portraying the pain, helplessness and heartbreak, this scene leaves us devastated and sad.

In an interview with Film Companion, Imtiaz Ali was asked how he made Deepika Padukone nail that scene perfectly with right emotions and feels. The Love Aaj Kal director said, “I told Deepika that I was in some country and walking across a path and I saw a grown-up girl was sitting and weeping alone on a park bench while some people were jogging and walking across. She was crying and people were looking at her and she obviously wasn’t enjoying it but she couldn’t help it. But she must have thought ‘Can I hold it till I go home and get into the room and cry comfortably in there?’. But the house must be far away. It’s a big city problem as when you get emotional, by the time you can ensconce yourself in the privacy and comfort of your house, it’s too far. So what do you do? You cry in a cafeteria.”

He added, “That instantly reminded her (Deepika) of those people and she could imagine that situation where someone publicly (Cries). She is a very shy girl. She’s inhibited about showing her true feelings, so she got that. If you were to actually be in that situation where you have to cry and people are there but you can’t help it and that’s how I started talking to her about ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’. She goes through in that.”

The Tamasha director said that Deepika Padukone cried for a very short period in the film and she did it so well that people talk about it all the time.

We agree with Imtiaz Ali. DP truly performed well and her heartbreak and pain truly hurt us in the gut.
