For the first time ever, a sports personality is topping the Forbes top 100 celebrity list after beating several Bollywood stars. Cricket run machine Virat Kohli is at the top of Forbes 2019’s India Celebrity 100 List by beating superstars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan.
The 2019 Forbes India Celebrity 100 List rankings were based on estimates of earnings through professions and endorsements of celebrities and estimates of their fame. The period under consideration is from October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019.
Virat Kohli’s earnings for 2019 is about 252.72 crores, while Akshay Kumar is holding a second spot with an income of 293.25 crores. Salman Khan is placed at the third position with an income of 229.25 crores.
Apart from the aforementioned stars, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone too have made their place amongst top 10, by grabbing the eighth and ninth spot, respectively.

There are 13 celebrities from the South this year (down from 15 in 2018) but their contribution to the cumulative earnings of the top 100 has increased to 12.57 percent from 11.26 percent in the previous year.
“The inevitability of such lists being dominated by men, which itself tells a tale of the lack of pay parity across genders in every local film industry and in every sport. In cricket, a whopping Rs 6.5 crore separates top men players from the women when it comes to the central contract. But when it comes to performance, there is no gap,” said Brian Carvalho, Editor, Forbes India.
