In a year that hasn’t seen too many biggies at the Box Office, there were two Akshay Kumar starrers that kept things positive for Bollywood – Airlift and Housefull 3. While these two films did their part, the second half of the year has begun on a positive note with Salman Khan’s Sultan doing great guns at the Box Office. Earlier, the film went on to cross 100 crore mark in 3 days flat and it has now set further records by becoming the biggest grosser of the year in 4 days.
On Saturday, 37.10 crore more came in and these are truly terrific numbers for the film which has been doing consistently phenomenal business ever since it arrived on screen. Despite the fact that this is the fourth day of its run in theaters, Sultan is showing tremendous hold and finding audiences in dozens. The collections have stayed consistently over the 30 crore mark with every passing day and while the first three days belonged to hardcore fans, it is word of mouth which is setting in now.
Yes, a lot also has to be credited to the advance booking of the film for Saturday and Sunday. Still, just that cannot be enough unless the current booking is on fire as well, something that is the case for the Salman Khan starrer. The film currently stands at 142.62 crore and with that, it has now gone past Airlift [127.8 crore] and Housefull 3 [107.70 crore].
The film is now aiming for a weekend of over 180 crore and that would bring it quite close to the entire lifetime collections of the biggest grosser of the year so far, The Jungle Book [184.5 crore]. Yash Raj Films now have a major grosser to their name and while Sultan is set to be a Blockbuster, the countdown now begins towards the film attaining an All Time Blockbuster status.
