The month of October has kick-started and it is going to be a flurry of releases from this point on. Singh Is Bliing is already occupying the largest chunk of screens while Talvar will step in well into the second week as well. Meanwhile, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is playing on limited screens this week as well.
All of this means that several holdover films – Welcome Back, Hero and Katti Batti– have ended their run at the Box Office.
Welcome Back has fell agonizingly short of the 100 crore mark and has concluded its theatrical journey at the 97 crore mark. The film was hurt by the fact that the film couldn’t release at several screens on Day One. Else, the film could have perhaps scored a century. Nonetheless, the film is still a success for all involved. It could well have been a clean hit but would have to settle at the Semi Hit mark due to high costs. That said, the film is now bound to be very good on satellite and would enjoy multiple re-runs (just like its predecessor Welcome) for years to come till Welcome 3 arrives.
Hero turned out to be an average affair at the Box Office. A well mounted film and one of the more lavish debutant affair, the film has ended its run at the 33.5 crore mark. The only gain from the film is the fact that industry now has two more young faces – Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty – as options for lead actors. It has to be seen though if their next film would again be a solo or a multi starrer affair.
Katti Batti, second of the Nikhil Advani directed film in as many as weeks, has disappeared from theaters as well. If the start was bad, the subsequent days were not good either, what with bad reviews and word of mouth all over. The film has fell a little short of the 27 crore mark and is a clean flop. For Kangna Ranaut, this is a letdown of sorts since she was high on the success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns and it was expected that at least her presence would ensure a good opening. On the other hand Imran Khan now has a hat-trick of flops behind them. Disappointing.
