House of the Dragon lived up to its predecessor’s reputation, the HBO series Game of Thrones. After impressing the fans in 2022 with its pilot season, House of the Dragon season 2 is all set to return this year, and the release date has been announced recently. The series brought back the fantasy world with dragons on screen once again after GOT and this time more in number. It was a visual treat, and the expectations are high this time, and so is the show’s budget, as per reports.
Who will be returning in Season 2?
The main cast, including Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Olivia Cooke as Alicent, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond, Eve Best as Rhaenys and Steve Toussaint as Lor Corlys will return in the second season.
Among the new cast, Graham McTavish, Phia Saban, Fabien Frankel, Amanda Collin, Simon Russell, Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, and Freddie Fox will reportedly join the old ones in House of the Dragon Season 2.
What will happen in HOTD 2?
The first season of House of the Dragon ended in the tragic demise of Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys by Aemond’s dragon, Vhagar. The Dance of the Dragons will begin in the second season. The civil war will officially start with some significant characters dying, and Rhaenyra will turn dark and allegedly ditch her tenderness.
Production & Budget
The production of House of the Dragon Season 2 began in April 2023, but it came to a halt because of the Hollywood strikes. The makers resumed filming soon after the strikes were resolved. As for the show’s budget, the first season had a reported budget of around $200 million, that is $20 million for each episode, and Season 1 had ten episodes.
Meanwhile, there were reports that House of the Dragon Season 2’s budget will be more than Season 1’s, but the numbers are yet to be revealed. Also, it has two fewer episodes than the first one.
Release date
Finally, after a long wait, House of the Dragon Season 2 is all set to premiere in June this year, as per Warner Bros Discovery streaming and gaming boss JB Perette. Perrette did not reveal the date, but it supports the earlier reports, which claimed that the sequel will arrive in early summer. JB shared the news in an interview with Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference, per IGN’s report.
