After Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, if there’s one old classic show which is everyone’s favourite these days, it’s Mahabharat. The epic show starring Nitish Bharadwaj, Mukesh Khanna, Puneet Issar, Roopa Ganguly, Pankaj Dhar, Gajendra Chauhan, and others is making the lockdown bearable for so many people. At the same time, it’s hitting the headlines as well for several facts, news, and trivia.
The latest one is about the fees of Mahabharat’s star cast and you’ll be surprised to know that everyone of them got the same remuneration at that time.

According to the report of Tellychakkar, everyone among the star cast of Mahabharat got Rs 3000 per episode at that time and there were total of 94 episodes shot.
The producer of the show B.R. Chopra’s daughter-in-law and Ravi Chopra’s wife, Renu earlier opened up about many things regarding the show. Renu in a conversation with HT regarding the budget of the show told, “It was Rs 6 lakh per episode, but Ravi told his father that however much he tried, he couldn’t bring it lower than Rs 7.5 lakh.”
She also talked about how most of the shooting was done in Film City, Mumbai but they shot war sequences near Jaipur. The requirements of extras cropped in. Interestingly, they found all the people who were ready to be a part of the show as extras at the shooting spot. That too for free.
“After we reached there, my husband said we would need to hire extras for the role of the soldiers. But when we reached the spot the next day we found a crowd of locals waiting there,” she said.
She further added, “Word had got around that shooting for the Mahabharat was taking place, and such was the popularity of the show that the locals landed up, eager to be a part of it and didn’t even want any money for it. “We didn’t hire any extras for the soldiers – except the front row ones. The locals would just come and be a part of the shoot from 6 am to 6 pm every day.”
