Filming on the series began in March in Rome, Italy, since the show is set in ancient Rome in 64 AD. While one side is “set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation,” the other is fighting “to preserve free will.” The characters go through “pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.” Other details about the storylines have been kept under wraps as of now.
Roberto Patino and David Wiener are the creators and showrunners, as well as executive producers of the Assassin’s Creed adaptation. The two of them told Netflix how excited and humbled they are by this key opportunity. While the franchise is known for its spectacle and thrill, its core is a human story.
Robert and David aim to share the story focused on “people searching for purpose” while “struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith.” The show will focus on themes such as power, greed, violence, sex, and intense vengeance, while staying grounded in human connection, culture, and time.

Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Claes Bang have been cast as series regulars, but their respective roles have not been revealed. This group will be joined by another set of talented recurring artists, who will constitute the entire series ensemble.
