The love and popularity of Assassin’s Creed around the world is no secret. The video game is one of the most beloved historical franchises, and now a Netflix live-action series based on it is being added to this hit list. The game has been a major bestseller for years, and fans are excited for more.

The crux of the Assassin’s Creed universe is a decades-long fight between the Order of Assassins, whose goal is free will, against the Knights Templar, whose chosen path is control. The franchise is based on historical and science fiction. Here’s what we know about the show adaptation so far.

Assassin’s Creed: What We Know About Adaptation So Far

Filming on the series began in March in Rome, Italy, since the show is set in ancient Rome in 64 AD. The adaptation will tell an original story “set in the heart of the Roman Empire.” It is touted as “a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions” and the friction that results from it.

While one side is “set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation,” the other is fighting “to preserve free will.” The characters go through “pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.” Other details about the storylines have been kept under wraps as of now.

Roberto Patino and David Wiener are the creators and showrunners, as well as executive producers of the Assassin’s Creed adaptation. The two of them told Netflix how excited and humbled they are by this key opportunity. While the franchise is known for its spectacle and thrill, its core is a human story.

Robert and David aim to share the story focused on “people searching for purpose” while “struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith.” The show will focus on themes such as power, greed, violence, sex, and intense vengeance, while staying grounded in human connection, culture, and time.

Assassin’s Creed Adaptation: Cast Details

Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Claes Bang have been cast as series regulars, but their respective roles have not been revealed. This group will be joined by another set of talented recurring artists, who will constitute the entire series ensemble.

These include Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, Corrado Invernizzi, Youssef Kerkour, Mirren Mack, Sandra Guldberg-Kampp, and lastly, Louis McCartney. Further details have not been made public but are expected to be revealed over time. Filming is under full swing over the last couple of weeks.
