What’s Good: Better production values and better cinematography as compared to Part 1. Competent performances by the cast and a couple of peppy songs.

What’s Bad: Meandering screenplay that goes round and round and doesn’t offer anything new or substantial. The shooting bloopers shown with the end credits are also a bad idea. These shots showing mumbling-fumbling actors, are like pouring a bucket of cold water on whatever little impact this insipid tale of three friends trying to cope up with ‘love’; has had on you.

Loo Break: Won’t make much difference.

Watch or Not?: The story or premise is basically the same as Part I. But it is tweaked and garnished with different detailing to make it appear different. If you have really enjoyed Part I, then you won’t mind this one too but don’t expect a lot of fun.

This is yet again a story of three bachelors with different temperaments who fall for girls who appear like a right choice to them. Once the falling in love happens, there is only a further decline and draining of emotions for the three guys. They cannot come to terms with the ways, whims and thought processes of their girlfriends. Gogo (Kartik Aryan), a happy-go-lucky pretty boy falls for an unbelievably dumb and cartoonish ‘Chiku’(Nushrat). Chiku has a childhood friend who’s nothing short of a regular boyfriend and yet their relationship is supposed to be ‘platonic’. ‘Chauka’(Sunny Singh), a little naïve and a sincere guy seems to have found the love of his life in Supriya (Sonali Sehgal), who is not able to muster enough courage to tell her parents about her love interest and is not even able to decide whether she really wants to spend her life with Chauka or not. Thakur (Omkar Kapoor), the smart, successful, no-nonsense guy gets involved with Kusum (Ishita Raj) who is too money-minded to care for anything else. Do these relationships’ sail safely to the shore or get rocked in the middle of the sea? Watch the film to know.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Review: Script Analysis

A couple of scenes in the first 10 minutes followed by the ‘Sharabi’ song establish the three lead characters quickly and convincingly. Thereafter love happens and the love stories progress rather fast. So, without wasting much time on being mushy, the couples get straight into the ‘irritation, squabbles & issues’ mode. Supriya and Kusum’s characters appear somewhat realistic but Chiku is an outright caricature and thoroughly irritating. It’s difficult to understand what Gogo sees in this girl and what makes him stick to her. He mentions his relationship being ‘casual’ at one point of time but is taking everything to heart. There are hardly any funny scenes in the movie. It’s only Sunny Singh’s Chauka who manages to get some feeble laughs with his misplaced earnestness.

A six minute monologue by Kartik Tiwari became a highlight of Part 1. Here, he gets double the time to rumble and rant about women and how they suck life out of men, with their eccentricities. Men may relate to some of that but it is not very convincing because, the three characters and especially Gogo, doesn’t experience any of that in the film. So, one wonders why is he talking about all this and where did he get all this ‘gyaan’, when his own relationship has not gone beyond childish and stupid.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Review: Star Performance

Unlike part 1, where Divyendu Sharma stood out as a performer, here everybody has delivered a satisfactory performance. Kartik Tiwari appears much more confident and in control in this installment and does a good job.

Sunny Singh is perfectly cast and does a good job too. The all grown up child actor, Omkar Kapoor is supremely confident. He is so much in control that it’s difficult to believe that this is his first film. But he wears a little smirky expression all through the film and it is not clear whether it is his effort at characterization or this is a default expression.

Nushrat as Chiku is irritating and senseless to the core and if this is what was intended, Nushrat has done a great job. Ishita Raj’s Kusum appears real and believable. Sonali Sehgel does a competent job too.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Review: Music, Direction

Music by Toshi and Sharib Sabri and Hitesh Sonik is not outstanding but isn’t outright bad either. ‘Paro’ is already popular and ‘Sharabi’ also won’t disappoint much. Other so called romantic song is forgettable.

Writer director Luv Ranjan wanted to make a film that shows an ugly side of love. This was a new idea and he sure had a fresh approach. This worked for the first film but only appears repetitive this time around. It looks like a contrived and labored effort. When do these guys fall so deeply in love? Except for Chauka, the other two appear to be casual in their relationships. It is difficult to understand what is keeping them in it, if they are facing so much trouble with it.

Luv Ranjan’s taking is smart and he keeps the scenes tight but it is the stale script that wears down heavily on the film. Dialogues are pale with usual cuss words and nothing to write home about. Overall, he fails to offer much of entertainment or enlightenment so to say, about relationships.
