Plot: The film is a political satire about two Indians who land in Karachi, Pakistan without their passports. However, they get trapped by the Taliban and desperately try to find a way to get back to India.

What’s Good: Both Arshad and Jackky try to save this film with their genuine acts which is the only good thing in the film.

What’s Bad: Umm.. Difficult to pick out the worse part, the weak content or the awful special effects.

Loo break: Yes please!

Watch or Not?: Naah! You could rather watch Rusell Peters’ videos at home and have a good laugh than watch a comedy that is a Yawn-edy!

Shammi (Arshad Warsi) and Kedar Patel (Jackky Bhagnani) are like Lloyd and Dunne of Dumb and Dumber. They are bestiez who have grown up together. Kedar is the son of Mitesh Patel (Dalip Tahil) who is an event manager for weddings in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Shammi on the other hand is an ex-navy officer who is kicked out of the force thanks to his stupidity. While Kedar is obsessed with going to the U.S., after being rejected a visa because of his surname.

On a drunk night, Shammi suggests that he and Kedar leave for America on a cruise, even though they laugh it off in that instance, in a freak accident by the sea, Kedar and Shammi who are supposed to manage a wedding baraat on a cruise, leave without the baraatis only to lose their direction and land up in Karachi, Pakistan.

What entails is a series of stupid events as they enter forbidden territories of Taliban.

Welcome To Karachi Review: Script Analysis

Welcome to Karachi is supposed to be a comedy but sadly it does not succeed in giving you even a single good laugh. It is sad to see writers time and again rely on stereotypes to bring the comic quotient out and this film does exactly that. Showing Gujaratis who wear flowery shirts, crave for US visas and are stingy is actually passe. Most of the jokes fall flat making this supposed funny ride a boring one.

The comedy is slapstick and using any logic would be a crime. Even for a no brainer, this film does not suffice. The Pakistani’s are also portrayed in quite a cliched manner. Recently, we have seen films like Filmistaan too which had a similar plot of an Indian being stranded in Pakistan but thanks to its intelligent content, the film worked well. Welcome To Karachi goes on the opposite as it fails to entertain you because of its mediocre content. Too many characters are crammed in a warped plot and none of then leave any impression on you.

Also, in a scene where the duo are shown a picture of Barrack Obama and asked if they know him, I fail to understand why they would not recognize him even when Shammi is shown to be an ex-navy official and thus it may have to be assumed that he is well read. The makers cannot rely on such content to make us laugh and in fact I could not even manage a fake laugh on that. Jokes such as Taliban toh Khaliban ban gaya are cracked and we are expected to have a hilarious laugh at a series of them which keep coming in a row.

Welcome To Karachi Review: Star Performances

Arshad Warsi as Shammi Thakur is decent enough. He does what he is best at, excel at the comic timing but it’s just that the content does not support much here. We have seen him do much more rib tickling fun in other films and I wonder what made him choose this.

Jackky Bhagnani as Kedar Patel tries his best to perfect the Gujarati accent and he does manage a good attempt. Only in a certain scenes, it becomes ham but overall he holds it well. His character is an understatement for dumb and he pulls it off just fine.

Lauren Gottlieb promoted this film with full swing but little did we know that she has only a blink and miss performance in the film. She essays the role of an Intelligence officer but other than her song Shakira, she hardly has any screen space.
