Most critics did not approve of the unnecessary lewd comments used in the film Shootout At Wadala. While such crude language has affected many, Ekta Kapoor’s film is facing maximum resistance currently from the group ‘Bhartiya Valmiki Dharam Samaj’, who have a predominant power in states of Punjab and Haryana.
The brunt on the film is so rigid that the film was taken off screens in many theatres of Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Bhatinda. A leading daily reported that the group has taken specific offense to two lines, ‘Har Chor Valmiki Nahin Hota’ and ‘Eklavya ne angutha diya, main pura haath doonga.’ Claiming that these lines show a very poor image of our mythological details, the group leaders also sent a legal notice to the film’s producer Ekta Kapoor and director Sanjay Gupta to do the necessary editing.
Though the film has deliberately muted the constant abuses hurled all screen, it would be preferable to mute these lines as well for the smooth running of the film. Belonging to a crucial circuit in North India, the film was expected to earn better there if the film was not pulled out.
