Sudhir Mishra as a director has been more or less been designated as the one who mixes commercial ingredients in offbeat cinema effortlessly. From Dharavi to Yeh Saali Zindagi, most of his movies have managed this mix well. In Inkaar he portrays romance with a theme of sex with Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh. Music in his movies is theme based and blends perfectly in the screenplay, something which is expected out of Inkaar as well. Hence, an experimental and offbeat streak is represented by lyricist Swanand Kirkire and composer Shantanu Moitra.
Album begins with Darmiyan which starts with an eclectic guitar and then has Swanand taking over to give it an Indian feel. His voice will stay with the listener even after the song as it is an unusual blend. Music has a mix of instruments in typical Shantanu style, which gives the track an edge.
In the next track Maula Tu Malik Hai, both Swanand and Shantanu come behind the mike and the enthusiasm simply pours. It does remind one of other tracks belonging to the same genre and ends up growing on the listener. A fast track with a message, it should help the story move forward.
Lead Singer of Rock band ‘Agnee’, K Mohan, renders the next song titled Zindagi Ka Karobar. He is one of the newest entrants in Bollywood from the rock world and Shantanu has used his voice aptly for the song. This track has a ‘rock’ feel to it with the band beats in the background and guitar added in the middle. Music and mood of the track complement each other.
Next in line is Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai which is rendered by Suraj Jagan. This track is an extension of the previous track and gets the listener deeper into the world of rock. Lyrics are meaningful but few would have the patience to listen to it closely and appreciate.
Last but not the least is the theme track of Inkaar. This track is a soft rendition which is primarily dominated by violin and has Monali Thakur in the background. It is a slow track, which provides a soothing breather in the album. It also conveys the deep passionate emotions of the theme without words, something which turns out to be beautiful.
Overall it’s an album with some experimental sounds but then one can expect only a few takers can be expected for such music in Bollywood parlance. Call it unfortunate but we still have a long way to go before Indian cinema adjusts to such kind of music in a Bollywood movie and turns out to be popular.
