The city of Kolkata is coming alive to the splendid bygone era of the 1980s. The team of YRF’s upcoming film Gunday, is having an absolute blast shooting in the city of Joy. They were faced with a daunting task of recreating the 80s era of Calcutta. Merging Bangali-babu culture, with the British pedigree culture of Park Street, Gunday’s team is trying its best to merge in celluloid, the exact feel of the city’s mystic charm.
They recently shot an elaborate sequence of Durga Puja, around the Howrah Bridge, both of these elements Calcuttans hold close. The shooting brought the city to a near standstill while a jubilant crowd cheered ecstatically – Joy Bikram, Joy Bala! The on screen bromance chemistry of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor is giving Calcuttans immense reasons to celebrate.
The film which is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar will star Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Irrfan Khan in lead roles. Arjun and Ranveer play the role of small time petty thieves who get entangled with the coal mafia.
Gunday’s plot calls for extensive research about the Calcutta of 1980s. Following the Naxalbari Movement from the 70s, the decade of 80s is recorded as one of the city’s most intriguing and turbulent times. Lethal activities surrounded the socio-political air of the city. Setting this as the background, the story of Gunday follows the lives of Bikram and Bela, who team together and become the most powerful mafia stalwarts of the black market.
The two actors are widely getting ‘infamous’ in the city which almost goes a step forward in working towards raking the film’s popularity. Looks like the film has already started its publicity schedule and we are hoping some smashing performances from these rebels aka Gunday!
