While fans are eagerly waiting for Wonder Woman 1984 to be released in theatres, Kristen Wiig, a newcomer to superhero franchises teases about her character Cheetah. WW84 is a blockbuster-sized production that brings the titular Amazon warrior into the mid-1980s.
The Saturday Night Live alum and star of the rebooted Ghostbusters plays the role of the meek archaeologist Barbara Minerva, who comes to resent Diana Prince (Gal Gadot). The character first made its presence in Wonder Woman #6 in 1943 as socialite Priscilla Rich. However, her character metahuman Cheetah stems from the post-crisis version of the villain, Barbara Ann Minerva. She finds herself aligned with shrewd businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and this dynamic duo proves trouble for Wonder Woman.
During an interview with InStyle magazine, Wiig revealed that the production maintained secrecy on the set of Wonder Woman 1984. So much that she has only memories, not photos, of her first time being in costume as the Cheetah. She said, “No, we weren’t allowed to take any pictures. This was lockdown. They have it somewhere, and you will see it. But there are different evolutions to my character. I will leave you with that.”
