Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi make an adorable pair. They began dating in 2005, and finally tied the knot in 2008. There have been multiple times when the couple has been rumoured to have split. But here they are, standing stronger than ever. But did you know, the couple dumped their ex-girlfriends to be together?
Yes, you heard that right. Ellen had been dating photographer Alexandra Hedison. In fact, they had been in a relationship for over four long years. On the other hand, Arrested Development actress Portia was dating singer Francesca Gregorini. They too were together for almost 2 years!
It was during an award show when Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi met. They struck the chords pretty soon. Talking about the same, The Ellen Show host made some revelations in a conversation with People magazine, back in 2005.
“She (Portia de Rossi) had a girlfriend and I had a girlfriend, but it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, we’re going to have an affair. We were just supposed to be together. It was a tough decision. I was physically getting sick because I was trying not to say anything. So I told Alex and she told Francesca. It was really hard to uproot everything,” revealed Ellen DeGeneres.
In fact, Ellen even spoke about how they were waiting for gay marriages to get legal. She said, “If it were legal, we would be married, but it’s not legal. I hate politics, but I think everyone should be treated equally. If I die tomorrow, everything’s taken away. We’ve taken precautions for that and she’s taken care of, but because we’re not married, the taxes would take everything.”
And here they are together, till date! Although there have been rumours around their split, we’re sure those are just baseless stories.
