He was in depression due to his brother Loki’s death (played by Tom Hiddleston) and the destruction of his planet Asgard during the war with his sister Hela (played by Cate Blanchett). Thor had also gained a lot of weight and thought of himself as unworthy (to life the Mjolnir).
