Thanks to the rising cost of living and soaring inflation, more of us are looking to tighten our belts when it comes to unnecessary spending. However, one sector that’s weathering the storm rather well is the health and beauty sector. In 2023, India’s cosmetics market was worth an estimated 2.32 billion rupees. In 2024, Indian consumers are forecast to spend more disposable income on beauty and cosmetics than ever before. Global brands are taking note of the enthusiastic spending power of the subcontinent.
Why Are More Beauty Brands Recruiting Indian Brand Ambassadors?
No longer an emerging market, Indian consumers have become a key demographic for established names in the cosmetics sector. From budget-friendly brands like CeraVe to familiar favourites like L’Oréal, beauty and cosmetic stalwarts are making waves in India. Unsurprisingly, this has led to more companies turning to Indian celebs in the hunt for brand ambassadors. This isn’t too surprising when marketing to a domestic audience, but there’s been an upswing in the number of Indian faces being sought out as global brand ambassadors.
Indian stars have always commanded respect at home, with enough influence to steer consumers and drive trends. In the age of social media, these stars enjoy significant reach far beyond the borders of India. Thanks to streaming services and a growing appetite for international film and television, personalities that would have once been bound by the borders of their home country now have international-level influence.

Which Indian Stars Are Beauty Brands Bringing On Board?
Bollywood actress Triptii Dimri might be young, but she’s already got a pretty impressive filmography under her belt. She made her big-screen debut in the 2017 crime thriller Mom, but it was her lead role in the 2020 horror movie Bulbbul that sealed her reputation as one of Hindi cinema’s stars of tomorrow. Keen to capitalise on Dimri’s rising profile was Clinique, with the respected beauty brand announcing her as their latest brand ambassador in August 2023. On paper, it’s a match made in heaven. Dimri is young, fresh-faced and full of confidence, making her a dream mascot for the brand’s latest lineup of products.
A Former Miss World Becomes the Face of Estee Lauder
Already a household name after taking the top spot at Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar’s star rose even higher in 2023 when she was announced as the latest brand ambassador for Estee Lauder. It’s not the first time that a Bollywood starlet has been enlisted by an established beauty brand. However, Chhillar’s partnership with Estee Lauder marks the first time an Indian celebrity has been cherry-picked for a global brand ambassador role. While the scope of Chhillar’s involvement is international, she’ll remain closely tied to Estee Lauder’s India division, headlining marketing campaigns for the brand’s ever-expanding portfolio of serums.
Indian Brand Ambassadors with International Reach
While the likes of Triptii Dimri have been pickled for their mass appeal back home, other Indian stars have a truly global outreach. Nowadays, Priyanka Chopra might be more at home in Los Angeles, but it was Bollywood where the actress and producer really honed her craft. Outside of cinema, she’s also lauded for her modelling and brand ambassador work. Luxury labels like TAG Heuer and household hair care brand Pantene are just some of the companies Chopra has attached herself to.
However, Priyanka Chopra isn’t the only Indian name with international appeal. As worldwide audiences continue to discover the joys of Indian cinema and desi pop culture, expect more global companies to look to the subcontinent in search of their next brand ambassador.
