Whether it was ‘Rockstar‘ where he went through varied range of emotions or even ‘Raajneeti‘ which stays on to be his biggest money spinner till date, the common sentiment is that Ranbir Kapoor has been truly fantastic in each of his offerings. Now with the promo of ‘Barfi!‘ making a stunning impact, the youngster is back in news for all the right reasons.
“It is films like ‘Barfi!‘ that bring an actor out of you and for someone as young as him, it is amazing to see how he has managed to grasp the medium so well”, says a prominent filmmaker.
However, Ranbir would have to wary of such compliments because similar things were said for Hrithik Roshan and his ‘Guzaarish‘ as well when Bhansali brought his ‘dream’ on celluloid. The film was a critical success but a commercial disaster. Moreover with Anurag Basu not quite gaining greater heights with ‘Kites’ behind him and now expected to make ‘Barfi!‘ as sweet as it gets, one looks at the film with hawk’s eye.
“Well, don’t forget that Rani Mukerji too had played someone disabled in ‘Black’ but the film had worked critically as well as commercially. At the end of the day it boils down to the story”, comments a film expert, “‘Black’ worked because it had a story to be told. On the other hand ‘Guzaarish‘ failed because it was too dull, dry and morose. Now if at all ‘Barfi!‘ finds an audience, it would be for the product as a whole instead of just a performance. No one doubts Ranbir here but the film has to be entertaining for audience to step out of their home and spend their well earned money.”
Hopefully, this ‘Barfi!‘ tastes as sweet as has been promised and there are enough commercial ingredients involved that work with ‘aam junta’ as well and not just the critics.
