Like every year, 2018 also brings with it tons of promising and awaited movies for which the fans have been waiting with their bated breaths. The year began with the release of one of the most controversial films of 2018, Padmaavat.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, this film made a blockbuster entry at the box office.

Collecting 114 crores at the box office only in 5 days, Padmaavat has entered the list of highest opening weekend grosser of 2018. The film experienced an extended weekend from Thursday i.e. 25th of January as Friday the 26th of January was a holiday due to Republic Day. A paid preview on Wednesday evening last week i.e. 24th of January, 2018 was also organised by the makers, which worked in favour of the film.

Padmaavat is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film after a gap of three years; his last was Bajirao Mastani also starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead. His three back to back movies be it Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani or Padmaavat have seen Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh as the constant factors as leads , weaving their magic in the film.

  1. Padmavat movie is remarkable. Bhansali has definitely made a grand, polished and visually superb movie which can be compared to Bollywood bigs. Certainly Hollywood class. But the major drawback of this movie is casting. If the movie’s grand scale is to be taken, then the casting should have been changed. Ranveer Singh is irreplaceable. Both Deepika and Sahid have done justice to their respective roles. But Aiswarya and Ajay/Hrithik/ John Abraham/ Vidyut Jamwal or any good actor with a matching body (taking into account the brave and heroic Rajput king) could have been better. Deepika is beautiful but her beauty is not justified to the beauty of Queen Padmini or Padmavati. The sword fight between Ranveer and Sahid could have been better like that of Troy. Direction and photography is fine. Editing in the jauhar scenes and here & there could have increased the slickness. Background scores at some important scenes felt wanted. Above all, this is a landmark movie in the history of Bollywood. I rate it 4.5 out of 5.
