The Hollywood release, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and its dubbed Hindi version, were the only ones which did good business last week (December 16-22) at the Indian box-office. All the four versions of the Tom Cruise starrer (including Tamil dubbed and Telugu dubbed) netted Rs. 19 crore in the first weekend. Collections dropped from Monday onwards but in spite of that, the film managed to hold all over. Of course, the maximum collections came from the original version.
Jo Hum Chahein proved to be one of the worst disasters of this year. It could barely complete a week, huffing and puffing along the way till it ran completely out of breath. It had to be discontinued from a number of cinemas after just a day or two because the audience reaction was miserable – that is, if there was an audience at all! The film, made with an investment of around Rs. 12 crore, will not be able to recover even a crore!
Pappu Can’t Dance Saala couldn’t even run, saala! After a poor opening, its collections failed to pick up anywhere. Although it had the multiplex feel to it, the audience in the multiplexes also rejected it in its first week. Probably, Vinay Pathak will have to rethink his career strategy because film after film starring him as hero has had to bite the dust. Or maybe, producers who sign him in lead roles, have to do some rethinking.
With Love, Delhi! (English) got no love from Bombay, Delhi or anywhere else. So pathetic were its collections in the first week that it would be more appropriate to call it still-born.
Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl dropped around 65% in the second week. After a Rs. 25 crore first week, the con film could manage Rs. 8 crore in its second week. With the opposition of Don 2 this week, expectations from LVRB in its third week are low.
The Dirty Picture added around Rs. 7 crore in its third week, taking its total to more than Rs. 75 crore.
