As expected, Kapoor & Sons showed good growth on Sunday, as a result of which the collections have come out on a positive note. The film brought in further 11.75 crore on Sunday, which is a good jump over the Friday collections (6.85 crore). The film currently stands at 26.35 crore and these are the second highest weekend collections of the year so far.
What works in favour of the Shakun Batra directed film is the fact that it has been accepted across the board when it comes to the target audience. The film was always aiming for the multiplex crowds in the major cities, and this is where the ensemble affair is working quite well too. Just like Neerja, which has worked in pockets of the country, Kapoor & Sons too has been making good penetration there.
The word of mouth is extremely positive, which means the fall during the weekdays should be minimal. For Dharma and Fox, this has turned over a new leaf since the content is taking precedence over everything else.
Here are the top weekend collections of 2016 so far:
Airlift – 44.3 crore
Kapoor & Sons – 26.35 crore
Ghayal Once Again – 23.25 crore
Neerja – 22.01 crore
Wazir – 21.01 crore
As for other releases of the week, Cute Kameena, Dare You and Mumbai Central, they have all expectedly turned out to be disasters.
Note: All collections as per the production and distributor sources.
