Directed by Adam Wingard, the latest monster flick serves as a sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong and marks the fifth installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. Speaking about the critics’ reviews, it have been mixed so far, and that’s the similar case with the majority of MonsterVerse films. However, when it comes to public reaction, these films have a thumbs-up most of the film.

Apart from the domestic and several other markets, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire also released in China today. As per the advance booking trends, a good start was definitely on the cards, but the estimates that are flowing in suggest a bumper opening. Yes, apart from good pre-sales, it’s the strong walk-ins that are helping the film to pull off a mega start.

As per trade reports, even before the completion of half day, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire crossed $7 million at the China box office. Currently playing on 151,000 screens, the film is expected to close its day 1 at $15 million or more. With positive word-of-mouth coming into play, the biggie might earn $50 million or more during the opening weekend.
To crush Dune 2’s opening weekend by miles?
Timothee Chalamet‘s latest hit, Dune 2, was released in China on 8th March, and during the opening weekend, it raked in $19.9 million. So, if Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire really manages to score $50 million, it would be 151.25% higher than the Dune sequel, which will take the magnum opus towards the milestone of $100 million or even bigger.
