As expected, Jai Gangaajal has taken an ordinary start at the Box Office. It was not expected to create havoc at the Box Office, considering the fact that the overall momentum was missing. However, recall value of Gangaajal, as well as coming together of two reputed names – Priyanka Chopra and Prakash Jha – meant that the film did have some opening of sorts at least. With around 30%-40% footfalls, the film gathered around 4 crore* on the opening day.

These numbers are much lesser than Priyanka Chopra’s last Mary Kom (8 crore) and Prakash Jha’s multistarrer Satyagraha (11.21 crore). Yes, both these films were much bigger in scale than Jai Gangaajal, but better collections in the range of 7-8 crore would have helped.

The film does gain from the fact though that it is pretty much an open week with no prior releases threatening its run and no competition from newer releases of the week. If the film picks up well over the weekend, it can expect a steady week at the Box Office and find some traction in week to come as well.

Zubaan was the other release of the week which, just like last week’s Aligarh, has been seeing constant praises being heaped on it by the industry insiders. However, none of that made any difference to the Box Office collections as the lack of face value proved to be a major hindrance in the film’s opening. In fact the very USP of the film, its music, didn’t pick up either that left Zubaan further struggling. With less than 50 lakhs* coming on the opening day, the film would need a miracle to show a turnaround.

* Final numbers awaited
