Four years back when Hate Story had opened, it had surprised the industry with Box Office collections of 5.26 crore. In today’s value, this number would be even higher. Of course, Hate Story was a major aberration when 9.72 crores came on an opening day as such kind of numbers were unprecedented for the erotic-thriller genre. This is the reason why no one was expecting such huge opening for the fourth in the franchise. However, it was still expected that at least 50% of Hate Story 3 collections would be enjoyed by Hate Story IV.
While that didn’t really happen for Hate Story IV with just 3.76 crores coming on the first day, all eyes were on whether the weekend collections would at least come close to those of Hate Story 2. The Surveen Chawla starrer had accumulated 15.65 crores over the weekend whereas the collections of the Urvashi Rautela film is lesser at 12.50 crore*. Looking at the trending so far, the first week would be in the vicinity of 20 crores.
3 Storeys has a tough road ahead though as the weekend has managed to be in the vicinity of 1.75 crores* mark but still, there is quite some distance still left to be covered. Critically speaking, this was the best-received film amongst the three new releases. However, that didn’t really translate into numbers as there wasn’t much of awareness.

On the other hand, the collections of Dil Juunglee have come across as a shock. No one expected the film to open so low but this is what has happened for the Taapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem starrer that has its collections staying under the 1 crore* mark. The rom-com genre is anyways struggling and the poor response to Dil Juunglee means it would now be quite a while before any major filmmaker would put a biggie romcom on the floors.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
