Last year when Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri had released, it had collected 4.02 crore on its opening day post while 15.34 crore had been accumulated over the weekend. Now that the actress has come up with Pari, the film has seen 15 crores coming over the weekend after its opening day numbers had read 4.36 crore.
There are a few key differences to be noted though. Phillauri was a relatively light-hearted affair and was a romantic drama at the core of it (despite the supernatural element). Moreover, the presence of Diljit Dosanjh had allowed the film to penetrate better in the Delhi-Punjab territories.
Pari doesn’t have any such advantage since the film is primarily dark and the leading man [Parambrata Chatterjee] is not really in a crowd-friendly role that would pull audience by dozens in his home territory Kolkata.
Yes, there is one major advantage though and that is the fact that the film belongs to the horror genre, which has its own limited, but loyal audience. Hence, now that a reasonable start has been taken, it would now all boil down to how weekdays turn out to be for the film.
Even a fair hold would ensure that the film goes past 25 crores at the least and that would ensure that some sorts of profits would be made by all involved with the film, be it Anushka Sharma, KriArj or Pooja Entertainment.
