Recently, the first quarter of 2026 ended for Bollywood, and so far, it has been a mixed bag at the Indian box office. Yes, it witnessed an all-time blockbuster in the form of Dhurandhar 2, but otherwise, there has been little relief. It is on track to give the Hindi film industry its first-ever 1000 crore net grosser, but in terms of success ratio, the industry has struggled in the first quarter. Keep reading for a detailed report!
Three major films succeeded, while two others failed
Between January and March, there were five major releases: Border 2, Mardaani 3, O’Romeo, The Kerala Story 2, and Dhurandhar 2. Of these five releases, three succeeded, while two tanked. Talking about the successful movies first, Border 2 raked in 362.76 crore net against a budget of 275 crore. The Kerala Story 2 scored 51.95 crore net against a budget of 28 crore. Dhurandhar 2 has scored a whopping 944 crore net in the first 14 days, and it’ll very soon enter the 1000 crore club.
Mounted on a reported budget of 60 crore, Mardaani 3 earned 52.99 crore net, thus becoming a losing affair. Even O’Romeo failed, earning 83.35 crore net against a reported budget of 130 crore.

Success ratio of less than 25%
Overall, Bollywood has witnessed 14 noteworthy releases in the first quarter of the year, of which only three have been successful. Ikkis, Happy Patel, Rahu Ketu, Mayasabha, Mardaani 3, Vadh 2, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, Tu Yaa Main, O’Romeo, Assi, and Do Deewane Seher Mein turned out to be failures. The overall success ratio of the Hindi film industry in the first quarter of 2026 is 21.42%.
In total, these 14 films scored 1554.49 crore net at the Indian box office (including Dhurandhar 2’s collection till March 31), which is good. Out of this total, Dhurandhar 2 alone has contributed 59.31%, while Border 2 has contributed 23.33%. This trend clearly shows that the audience is spending money only on big releases or films with good pre-release buzz and franchise factor.
