One of the most talented and respected singers in the Indian industry, Lata Mangeshkar celebrates her 81st birthday today (28th September). The Guinness Record holding singer began her career when she was 13 years old, in 1942. Lata was no stranger to music; her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a classical singer and theatre actor. Later, her sisters, Asha Bhosle and Usha Mangeshkar followed her footsteps into playback singing.

Lata Mangeshkar began her career with the song ‘Naachu Yaa Gade’ in the Marathi movie Kiti Hasaal in 1942. The Bharat Ratna winner last lent her voice to a song from the film Jail in 2009. Madhur Bhandarkar, the director of ‘Jail’ wished her on Twitter, “Wishing you Lata Didi many happy returns of the day….May god bless you with good health, love and peace..Love MB”

Lata’s sister, Asha Bhosle regretted not being able to celebrate her sister’s birthday, “My favourite Female Singer & also my Elder Sister Latadidi celebrates her birthday today…Will miss out her birthday celebrations in person as I am in Hong Kong, but my well wishes are always with Latadidi.”

With the birthday wishes pouring in, Lata Mangeshkar couldn’t help but thank everyone for their greetings, “I am deeply touched and overwhelmed with your love and kind wishes on my birthday…it is only because of your constant support and love that I feel the need to keep going on…I thank you all from my heart…The child in me is still very alive…never ever let the child in you die.”

    from my childhood, I am a fan of lataji, and we have duplicate lady of Lataji in our locality. Same like lataji, not only me , everyone call her lata and she was very hard working lady working 20 hours a day like LATA DIDI.

    Lataji salgirah mubarak, allahpak Badi lambi umer de aapko.

    Her song which is written by Bharatvyass…..Mujhe na bula….voice inspired me when I was 7 years old.

    Later the song of film leader and sangam were my favourate songs, AAJ HAI PYAR KA FAISLA HAI SANM: very beautiful narration which is converted into Lyrics, inspired me.

    shakeel, sahir wrote this song & the music of hidaynathji also always petrate my heart and Ashaji..the beautiful lady , with her clear urdu prounouciation penetrated my heart. Offcourse this all the gift of God.
