Her name resonates with class, guts, honesty and an air of unconventional choices that is a breath of relief in the industry. Yes, Vidya Balan is one actress who does not shy from calling a spade what it is and has always made a difference with her choices in her professional and personal life!
And now, in an exclusive interview to Pinkvilla, the Kahaani actress recounts her horrific experiences of rejection, casting couch and fat shamming. Spilling the beans on the same, Vidya said, “One day I remember I was in Chennai and this director came to meet me. I said let’s sit in the coffee shop and he kept insisting that eh wants to talk to me and that we should go to the room. I left the door of my room open and he left within five minutes. This incident suddenly struck me today when I’m talking about this.”
Revealing another incident that left her ‘scarred’, Balan said “Someone wrote that ‘Dress like this, she has no business of getting out, she should stay indoors’. That had affected me so much that for the longest time, I would get dreams of it and get really angry. Today, I don’t let the noise get to me.”
The actress revealed that there was also a phase in her life where she was replaced in 12 Malayalam films at once. Speaking about how the constant rejection has begun making her fade as a person Vidya said, “My parents were so worried for me that they flew with me to Chennai to meet the producer of the Malayalam film and there the producer showed us some stills from the film, asking my parents if I even looked like a heroin. He also said ‘I was never in favor of taking her for the film; it was always the director who was interested’. And I was just so heartbroken.”
Well we definitely would have been heartbroken if the Mission Mangal actress would have given up on her dream of acting!
