Ugly 2: Ajay Bahl Replaces Anurag Basu As Director

Anurag Kashyap’s 2013 movie Ugly is one of the most sensitive films he has ever directed. The movie explored the sordid aftermath of an actor’s kidnapped daughter. Rahul Bhat was seen in the main lead in the film. The piece of big news is that the movie is all set to get a sequel but with a twist. The sequel will not be directed by Anurag Kashyap. Yes, you have read it right.
Ajay Bahl will be directing Ugly 2 while Anurag Kashyap will continue to be the co-producer of the proposed franchise.
In an interview with Spotboye, Ajay Bahl shared the details of Ugly 2. The filmmaker said, “I actually went to Anurag with script, a thriller which is dark and yet illuminated by a sense of immediacy and relevance. Anurag loved it. I wish I can tell you more about the story. All I can say is, it is nothing like anything seen in the genre of topical thrillers.”
Ajay Bahl shared that it was Anurag Kashyap’s idea to make his screenplay as Ugly 2. He added, “It was he who suggested that we make my screenplay as Ugly 2. While Anurag directed the first Ugly film I will direct the second.” The third Ugly film may be directed by someone else. But the producers will remain the same. “The idea is to turn Ugly into a franchise on the dark areas of life.”
Ajay Bahl said he is very excited for Ugly 2 as he loved the first film in 2013. The BA Pass director also feels that his script fits perfectly into the mood created by the 2013 film. He confirmed that Rahul Bhat will continue to play the lead in the sequel as well.
