At this event, a choice 15 Raj Kapoor feature films will be screened. The Tribute will run for six weeks at the new TIFF cinema house and art gallery, the BELL Lightbox, which is now the permanent home of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Noah Cowan, Artistic Director of TIFF, was in Mumbai to announce the gala tribute being paid to Raj Kapoor and his legacy in Toronto. The media meet was attended by Raj’s sons Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv Kapoor. The family extended their appreciation of TIFF and IIFA honouring Raj Kapoor and said they will be in Toronto to extend their presence and support to the honour being paid to their celebrated family patriarch.

With a career spanning over five decades, Raj Kapoor achieved phenomenal success and became the youngest director of his time at age 24 when he opened his own studio, RK Films.

Memorabilia from Raj Kapoor films – such as costumes, cut-outs and props used in the making of his films – will be on display in the TIFF Bell Lightbox gallery. Paintings inspired by Raj Kapoor films by acclaimed Goa-based artist Seema Sardesai‘s will be showcased at this event. The Gala opening on the 26th will be hosted by acclaimed director Karan Johar.
