The Supreme Court on Tuesday admitted a plea by the Maharashtra government challenging the acquittal of Hindi film star Salman Khan in a 2002 hit-and-run case.

A bench of Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice Arun Mishra also refused to fast-track the hearing in the case.

Salman Khan was found guilty by the sessions court on May 6, 2015 and convicted for, among others, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and sentenced to five years in jail.

However, on December 10, 2015, the Bombay High Court acquitted him of all charges and quashed the lower court verdict.
