Legendary Music Composer Mohamad Zahir Hashmi, popularly known as Khayyam Saab, passed away late yesterday at Sujoy Hospital in Mumbai following a cardiac arrest at age of 92. The National Award-winning musician, who is well known for his musical works in Umrao Jaan, Kabhi Kabhie, Noorie among others, was not keeping well from past many days following age-related diseases.
Khayyam Saab had started his musical journey at the young age of 17. Apart from National award, the musician in his musical career was also honoured with the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Padma Bhushan, Filmfare Award among many other awards.
Khayyam’s mortal remains have been kept at his Juhu home to enable people to pay their last respects to the legendary composer who passed away aged 92 late on Monday. The funeral procession will start from his home in Dakshina Park Society, Juhu, at 4 p.m., and wend its way to the Four Bungalows Kabrastan.

The last rites will be performed at 4.30 p.m. and he will be accorded full state honours, including a gun salute, said the aide. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar and many Bollywood Biggies took on social media to pay their tribute to Khayaam Saab.
India will remain grateful to Khayyam Sahab for giving us some of the most memorable compositions, which will be remembered forever. He will also be remembered for his humanitarian gestures to support upcoming artists. His demise is extremely saddening.
