The Delhi riots have taken an ugly turn in the recent past with many people being injured. People are being targetted for their religious beliefs and what not and are being even beaten to death. Many Bollywood celebrities including Javed Akhtar, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker, Anurag Kashyap have even reacted to it.
Javed Akhtar was quite vocal about his opinions about the riots and landed himself in trouble for one of his comments. He had recently tweeted, “So many killed, so many injured, so many houses burned, so many shops looted so many people turned destitute but police have sealed only one house and looking for his owner. Incidentally, his name is Tahir. Hats off to the consistency of the Delhi police.” There was a media report based on this that led him to trouble.
On Wednesday, a local advocate, Amit Kumar filed a complaint against the lyricist before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Thakur Aman Kumar. Amit claimed that his comments on FIRs being filed against suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain in the viewing of Delhi protests was seditious and promoted religious hatred.
For the unversed, Javed Akhtar’s tweet came after IB Officer Akita Sharma’s unfortunate demise. His family members accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Tahir Hussain of being involved in it and the Delhi Police sealed the accuser’s house and factory for the same.
Apart from Javed Akhtar, Bollywood celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Swara Bhaskar, Richa Chadha, Alia Bhatt were amongst the many who spoke against the government’s new bill – Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and these riots. Deepika Padukone sent a wave of frenzy when she took part in the protest against the actions that took place at JNU.
