The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which is being held in Panaji, Goa, is going to be a feather in our cap considering the kind of movies that are going to be screened. The festival will screen 300 movies from across 61 countries with awards worth Rs. 90 million!
Here are some of the highlights from the festival so far:
– Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali film, Nouka Dubi, has been invited to be premiered at IFFI. The film, based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore, is produced by Subhash Ghai and stars Raima Sen, Riya Sen, Prasenjit and Jisshu Mukherjee.
– Italian director Italo Spinelli’s Gangor will be the official entry in the Cinema of the World section of the IFFI. The Indo-Italian co-production starring Priyanka Bose, Adil Hussain, Seema Rahmani, Samrat Chakrabarti and Tillotama Shome.venture was shot last year in Purulia and Calcutta.
– West is West, a sequel to the popular film East is East, which was made almost 10 years ago, was also part of the screening. The film traces the return of the Pakistani farmer, Jehangir Khan (Om Puri) to his roots after thirty years.
– Leaving Home featuring the Indian Ocean band and Mee Sindhutai Sapkal were the opening films of Indian Panorama.
– A ‘film bazaar’, organised by the National Film Development Corporation Ltd (NFDC), is attracting big market players for co-production deals with Indian filmmakers. besides tourism industries of countries that are targeting Bollywood productions.
IFFI Goa 2010 will be held from November 22 to December 2.
