It’s time to hoo-haw at the list of contenders for the golden trophy. The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were announced January 24 with Hugo (11 nominations) and The Artist (10 nominations) as the frontrunners.

It was a bit surprising to see Leonardo DiCaprio left out despite his stellar performance in J. Edgar , Tilda Swinton lose out for her restrained role in We Need to Talk About Kevin and Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures Of Tintin fail to get him a nomination in the best director category.

Incidentally, Anil Ambani owned Reliance DreamWorks garnered 11 Oscar Nominations for three films — War Horse, The Help and Real Steel. This is the first time an Indian-owned company has been nominated in such a big way at the Oscars. Two films from Reliance DreamWorks — War Horse and The Help — are nominees in the Best Picture category.
