Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar starrer Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is one of the most awaited films of 2020. The film focuses on homosexuality and same-sex marriage. In India, the topic of same-sex marriage is still considered a taboo and the LGBTQ community have to fight for their rights.

Hitesh Kewalya’s film aims to target these homophobic people and tell them that it’s high time they understand that it’s normal and natural to be a homosexual. When the trailer of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan came out, a lot of people praised the actors and the makers for making a film on such an important subject. However, some were also disappointed that the makers didn’t cast gay actors to play the lead roles.

In an interview with Koimoi, when Ayushmann Khurrana was asked what they didn’t cast gay actors to play the lead roles, he said, “You need a bankable actor for this kind of film for penetration. Then it becomes a parallel cinema. We did try to cast a homosexual actor to be paired opposite to me. We approached a lot of homosexual actors, but they said that they don’t want to come out in the open.”

He added, “These actors said that even for the promotions if we say that we are gay, no one will give us the role of a heterosexual guy. Professional actors weren’t ready to come forward.” The Bala actor further stated that they also conducted auditions of non-actors for the film, but that couldn’t be achieved.
