Dum Maaro Dum In Trouble Again!

Savio Rodrigues, a media professional, who moved the Court has pleaded that the release of the movie should be banned as it will adversely affect the state’s tourism as the movie portrays Goa in a bad light as a destination of sex, drugs, corruption, and loose women. He also said that Goa had been bearing the brunt of quite a lot of negative publicity after cases of murder, rape and drugs have been unearthed in the tourism coastal state. Former tourism minister Fransisco Pacheco also raised the issue during the ongoing state legislative assembly session. Goa tourism minister Nilkant Halarnkar had told the House that the government will ‘seriously’ take up the issue with the producer.

If director Rohan Sippy believes in the adage, “Any publicity is good publicity,” then there couldn’t be a happier man. While Rohan Sippy’s movie is based in Goa, it tries to show the darker side of the state mostly known for its beaches and party culture. Earlier, Dev Anand had objected to the use of the title of his song Dum maro dum for the Abhishek Bachchan. Deepika Padukone’s much touted item number in the film also failed to grab eyeballs. There were also rumours about Bipasha Basu’s alleged break up with her boyfriend John Abraham and her proximity to co-star Rana Daggubati. Bipasha was also said to be upset that Deepika was prominent in the initial posters of the film.
