Ajay Devgn is back again! After Drishyam, which released last year, the actor was seen in a cameo as Moazam in Fitoor early this year. This time around, Devgn is geared by for his big release Shivaay.
When asked why ‘Shivaay’, he said he was bored of the action sequences in Bollywood films and that’s why he tried to up the ante by directing Shivaay, which also sees him as the lead actor.
The actor also spoke elaborately about the film and its casting, his issues with filmmaker Karan Johar and also placed his views on banning Pakistani talents in India.
The trailer has created great amount of excitement among the moviegoers. What is the movie all about?
Actually, I have kept important things under wraps. But if you observe the songs, they unfold certain aspects or story about the film. But of course if you want to know the complete story, you should catch it in the theaters.
Can you at least throw some light on the basic plot of Shivaay?
Well, Shivaay is basically an emotional drama which explores the relationship of a father, played by me, and his daughter.
What was the thought put in behind the movie title ‘Shivaay’?
In today’s world, every individual can connect to Lord Shiva. The lead character whose name is Shivaay, has his own shortcomings and positive things like Lord Shiva. But when certain situation demands, he also turns into a destroyer just like Lord Shiva.
What are your promotional strategies for Shivaay?
As an actor, producer and director of the movie, I hardly get any time to promote my film. I have to work on the final stages of the film, so after giving interviews, I have to rush now to the studio for mixing and background. Since last few days, me and my team are working for around 18 hours.
What are your views on Banning Pakistani artistes in India?
I have respect for Pakistani talents. But at times there comes a situation when the topic of discussion is not about art and actors, it’s about our nation. So, looking at the current scenario we should stand by our nation like Pakistani artists, who are taking stand for their country. I hope all these tensions resolve fast, so that the cultural exchange between this two countries will restart.
What is the reason behind the gap between you and Karan Johar?
The gap between us is not because of the film. It has been since a very long time. Our issues are strictly personal, and nothing professional. Those are personal issues and I don’t want to talk about it.
You have cast a foreigner in the film. Why so?
It was a demand of the script. And once you watch the film, you will realize that. Our country is never short of talent, and the movie is very much performance oriented and it took me more than a year to find them. I wanted natural and real actors, and I am very lucky to find such good actors whose performance will be appreciated by everyone.
