Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa is one of the best coming-of-age Hindi movies. Released in 1994, the Kundan Shah directorial stars Shah Rukh Khan, Suchtria Krishnamurthy and Deepak Tijori. As years passed, the love for KHKN grew, especially for SRK’s character, Sunil. A lot of people felt connected with Sunil’s story. After all, he wasn’t like most Bollywood heroes. Sunil would rarely get anything he wanted. After all, that’s life. You don’t always get what you want.
It has been 30 years since Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was released, and movie lovers can’t get enough of it. Everything about Kundan Shah’s movie is incredible, from the story to the performances to the music. In fact, SRK once called KHKN his favourite movie. What if we tell you that the superstar was paid only 25000 Rs for the film with a signing amount of just 5000 rs?
Filmmaker Kundan Shah made this revelation in a past interview with Rediff. The director cast the Pathaan actor in his film as he found his performance in Fauji quite impressive. After Shah was done writing the script, he met the actor at the muharat of his movie Deewana. It was a crowded room, so they spoke in the corridor. Kundan wanted Shah Rukh to sign the consent letter.
The director shared, “There was no table around, so Shah Rukh sat down on the floor, kept the letter on his lap and signed. We gave him Rs 5,000 as the signing amount. His entire fee for the film was Rs 25,000.” One day, SRK told the director he wanted to buy the rights to KHKN as it was a sweet movie. Well, the King Khan remained true to his word.
Last year, when the film completed 29 years, SRK described his character Sunil and the movie quite beautifully. On his Instagram, the Dunki actor wrote, “At that stage…in that age…..raw….uncontrolled….craft still undefined….surrounded by the best cast and crew in India and a director who I miss every day! Taught me that sometimes u lose the moment….but win everything else…I am sure somewhere, some world Sunil did too!!”
From charging 25000 for a movie to now his films breaking box office records, Shah Rukh Khan’s career graph is truly impressive.
Meanwhile, the superstar will be next seen in YRF’s two movies from the Spy Universe – Pathaan 2 and Tiger V Pathaan. Recent reports stated that the events of the Pathaan sequel would lead to a clash between SRK and Salman Khan’s Tiger.
