If you recently heard rumours that Deepika Padukone would be swaying to the remixed version of the hit song, Dum Maro Dum, from the 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, there’s no need to get your hopes high. Veteran actor and filmmaker Dev Anand has clarified that he never gave any permission for use of the song.
Industry was buzzing with news that director Rohan Sippy’s forthcoming film, Dum Maaro Dum, would feature the remixed version of the song, ‘Dum Maro Dum’, when Dev Anand issued the statement. Certain reports claimed that Rohan Sippy had personally met Dev Anand to ask if he could use the song in his film. The buzz also was that Sippy planned to remix the song and feature Deepika Padukone in a special avatar. Given the current trend of many filmmakers going for a hot item-number featuring a top female actor, this came as no surprise to anyone. Until Dev Anand put a spanner in the works.
Anand wrote on his Twitter.com page, “I was very shocked to read the newspaper (report) about my giving permission for ‘Dum Maro Dum’. I never met Rohan Sippy in my life leave aside giving permission for my song.” It looks like Rohan Sippy will have to make do with the title now.
‘Dum Maaro Dum’, which stars Abhishek Bachchan in the role of a cop – along with Bipasha Basu, Rana Daggubati, Pratik Babbar and Aditya Pancholi – is scheduled to release on April 22, 2011.
