After more than 30 years in the Indian film industry, both of Anil Kapoor’s daughters have made their entry into Bollywood. His girls, Rhea and Sonam Kapoor, are both in their early 20s and are already prepared for stardom with all the wisdom from their lineage in the film industry.
But Anil has slowly and steadfastly made his mark; be it with the trademark ‘Jhakaas!’ or the arrogance of the game master in Slumdog Millionaire. The original Mr. India traced his four decade long journey with Komal Nahta, “In my first decade I was aggressive, I was arrogant, and I thought I was the best in the world. I thought I could conquer the world. In the second decade, I actually did. When people criticized me, I thought they were jealous of me. The third decade was about doing something, planning and trying to understand criticism. It was about being a good human being, husband and father. In the fourth decade, I’m enjoying the fruits.”
This Kapoor family is fast becoming the next First Family of Bollywood. Anil’s father Surinder Kapoor, brother Boney Kapoor and daughter Rhea Kapoor are all producers. His brother Sanjay, sister-in-law Sridevi and daughter Sonam Kapoor are actors while son Harshvardhan is pursuing a course in filmmaking in the US. But Anil Kapoor hasn’t forced any of his kids to join the bandwagon, “When Sonam was offered a film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, all I asked her was whether she wanted to be an actress or not.”
Pappa is definitely proud of how his kids have turned out. On daughter Rhea, he says, “Rhea is like her mother, she doesn’t like coming in front of the camera. She loves producing. She’ll be the most beautiful producer!” Touché!
