Ajay Devgan is a smart guy who will not let emotions rule his head. He thinks from his head, not his heart. He knows what is good / not good for him and takes calculated decisions. On the surface he may seem like an easy going guy, and to an extent he is an easy going guy. But beneath that easy going demeanour is a mind that is constantly thinking.
Which is not to say that he is manipulative, he’s not at all manipulative. But he likes to think before he jumps and never take a decision in haste. Rather, he weighs the pros and cons and then decides, whether it is about films or life.
As an actor, Ajay has shown remarkable growth in the last 4-5 years. Although he did films like Ishq and Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet where he played comic roles, it was impossible to imagine him shine in comedy roles back then. But it stands testimony to his growth as an actor that he has had a string of comedy hits, especially the Golmaal series.
So, for someone who started off as an out-and-out action film like Phool Aur Kaante, its tremendous growth. When one looks back at his career, he has done all kinds of genres: absolutely romantic, comedy, drama, social films, etc. It is also one way of saying that he thinks he should not stick to one or two genres only.
Ajay Devgan is also a man of relationships – he keeps friendships alive in a very mature way, never giving in to loose talk or gossip. However, you can’t fool him either because he listens to everybody, but the final decision is always his own.
Ajay used to be uncomfortable even giving interviews but today he has probably realised that promoting a film is as important as making the films itself. But that slight discomfort is still visible every time one talks to him on camera. Even when he’s promoting, there will be giveaways. For example, he will say, “We have done our best, what else can we do”!
Ajay Devgan’s career has been on the ascent in the last 4-5 years. Especially the years 2010 and 2011 have been very good for him so far. Before that there was a time when he had 10-20 flops with an average grosser in between. The fact that Ajay Devgan has bounced back in such a fantastic way, is a testament to his perseverance and the sense of choosing the right projects.
