While Sooraj Pancholi choked up and cried at bit during the launch of his debut film Hero’s trailer, Salman Khan remained his usual entertaining self. The superstar was also touchingly generous when he compared Sooraj to himself, and considered him a star of the future. But his witticisms made for even greater fun.
1. When director Nikhil Advani commented that the hardest man to satisfy while making ‘Hero‘ was the producer, Salman Khan, he meant that the actor turned producer wanted every bit of Sooraj’s film to be well shot, sleekly produced & larger than life. Having worked with Advani in the flop ‘Salaam E Ishq’, Salman would refer to this film for it’s grand production & scale.
Salman interrupted Nikhil with a poker face and said, “When I meant ‘Salaam E Ishq’, I only meant how great it looked, not the rest of it. I don’t want this film to end up like that one!” The crowd burst out laughing at his remark.
2. When Sooraj Pancholi was asked by a member of the press on how well does he think he has fared in his debut film, he said, I have not done my best yet. To this, Salman replied, “So now you tell me!” with mock seriousness. Once again, the press tittered at his remarks.
3. Salman Khan opened the press conference by saying, ‘There is one Sooraj who has always done a lot for me in my life. So I think I can definitely help one more Sooraj too.!” The temperamental Khan was referring to Sooraj Barjatya, the director of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, the blockbuster that marked his first hit.
4. Naturally, the media attending this launch had asked Sooraj Pancholi on what advice did Salman give him during the shooting of his first film. Sooraj smiled & replied, ‘He said don’t act too much, stay cool & wear a great pair of Jeans!” To which, Salman quipped, “Jahaan Jeans ki fitting gayi, Hero gaya!” (In English: If the fit of a hero’s pants aren’t right, he won’t work with audiences.) Salman then went on to give a typically vague explanation of how well fitting jeans can impact an actor’s fate!
5. Salman didn’t miss a single opportunity to tease Subhash Ghai, his co producer in this film. From teasing Ghai about the fate of their disastrous film ‘Yuvraaj’ to teasing him about not having the music rights of the Hero title & signature flute tune from his film, Salman kept taking digs at the showman, who sportingly, smiled through all of it. Even at 50, Salman remains the bad boy of Bollywood whom everyone loves despite himself!
