Bol Bachchan is one of the most awaited movies of this year. There are many reasons for that – the film is inspired from Hrishikesh Mukerjee’s classic comedy Gol Maal, it’s the first time that Abhishek Bachchan has a double role as well as expectations of yet another fun riot from Rohit Shetty. As is the case with his other movies, the music complements the comic mood of the subject here. The album constitutes of 4 original tracks and a remixed track for each song. Himesh Reshammiya is the composer with Ajay-Atul chipping in with a guest track.
Album begins with the title song and as always Mr. Bachchan never goes wrong. This song can actually be termed as a crowd puller. The song takes its time to grow on you and once you get the rhythm, Big B’s voice is what stays with you and the listener thoroughly enjoys it. Though the song has contributions from Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Himesh Reshammiya, Mamta Sharma and Vineet Singh, its Big B show all the way as his voice dominates the song. Lyrics penned by Farhad & Sajid add oodles to the fun element of the song and help in making it a hit. The remix version of the song has the same team while Himesh has been able to keep the freshness in the song. The original will be hit for the fun element and the remixed version due to the catchy beat in the background, hence making it a track to dance on.
Next in the album is Chalao Na Naino Se sung by Shreya Ghosal and Himesh himself. The onset of the song reminds one of Mehngai Dayain from Peepli Live. The only difference is the additional instruments and the female voice which was missing in the original song. This is the song which is being used to market the movie other than the title song and might do the trick for the movie as the music is catchy and tune (though more than just inspired) is still good. Lyrics for the song are written by Shabir Ahmed and it compliments the setting and tune.
Nach Le Nach Le is the song which misleads you. At the beginning it sounds like a soothing romantic number; however as it progresses the beats take over to convert it into a foot tapping outing. The song has been rendered by Shreya Ghosal and Sukhvinder Singh who have come up with hit, typical open and loud style which suits the situation. Music is given by Ajay-Atul Gogavale with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire. Just like the other songs, there is a remix for this too. It starts as a very upbeat tune and has drum beats in the background which keep the tempo going through out the song.
Jab Se Dekhi Hai is the song which definitely is the most romantic number in the album. Sung aptly by Mohit Chauhan, it is written by veteran Sameer. It is a song which conveys the emotion and the mood effortlessly and simply. Himesh has been able to make Mohit Chuahan sing this one in a way Kumar Sanu did during the 90s while the choice of instruments makes you nostalgic and takes you back to Sadak or Saajan days. However, the remixed version of the song throws you back to present and leaves no doubt that it is a Himesh Reshammiya track. Now this one turns out to be an average track and not something that listeners would remember for long.
All in all, just like other Rohit Shetty movies, the music is good but doesn’t quite promise a long run. The album does convey the fun and entertainment that his movies are known for, but is not promising enough to be remembered as a melodious or an unforgettable album. The only song which will definitely rise up the charts is the title track Bol Bachchan and that too for obvious reasons. Also, though it’s a Himesh Reshammiya album, first and foremost it is a Rohit Shetty movie which means music becomes a part of all the fun but does not carry a film on its shoulders. For that I am sure the director has other entertaining items to churn.
