#FlashbackFriday: It’s known to all that fights do happen in Bollywood. Sometimes, the celebs try to make sure it doesn’t go out in public. However, there are times when fights happen right in front of people and nothing can be done to hide them. One such fight happened between Salman Khan and Mithoon and Arijit Singh too.
A few years ago, Salman Khan hosted an award show. Singer-Composer Mithoon won an award for his composition for 2013 film ‘Aashiqui 2‘ that starred Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. As reported by Times of India, when Mithoon was giving his acceptance speech, Salman Khan interrupted him and pointed out a piece of paper that was stuck to the composer’s backside. This is when the war of words happened between Salman and Mithoon.
The Ek Villain composer responded to the Bharat actor that it was bound to happen as the evening is dull due to Khan’s long speeches. Mithoon’s response didn’t go down well with the superstar who replied to him, “Chal jaa. Nikal yahan se” to which the composer said, “Sir, main aap se nahin darta.”
Later Mithoon clarified his stand that he never said Salman Khan is boring them with his long speeches. However, an eyewitness told the daily, “Salman’s prank backfired totally. He looked very flustered. This was the last thing he expected. Nobody challenges Salman Khan like that in public. Seeing that the situation was snowballing into an ugly incident, Salman went up to Mithoon and hugged him lightly.”
This was not all. Salman Khan also got into an argument with singer Arijit Singh. When Salman was hosting Star Guild Awards back then, Arijit Singh won an award for his track Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2. When he went on to the stage to collect his award wearing casual clothes and chappals, the superstar joked at him, “So gaye the kya? (Were you sleeping?)” To which Singh replied, “Aap logon ne sula diya yaar (You guys put me to sleep)”. Arijit’s answer affected Salman who mocked him that if he will sing songs like Tum Hi Ho, it would make anyone sleep.
Later, in 2016, Salman made sure that Arijit’s song ‘Jag Ghoomeya’ from Sultan gets removed from the film. The track was later crooned by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Even before that, Khan didn’t let him sing a song for Kick which was being composed by Meet Brothers. In 2015, when Singh was helping composer Pritam with the music of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, he was being considered for a particular song. But Pritam told the National Award Winning singer that he won’t record a song with him as Salman might remove it.

The Laal Ishq singer had even apologised to the superstar publicly during the Sultan incident. But till today, there’s bitterness.
Later in an interview with IANS, Arijit was asked what happened between him and Salman to which he said, “This was my first award function. I wasn’t prepared to go for it because I was editing a song for my mentor Pritam da (composer Pritam Chakraborty) but Mukesh Bhatt ji, who was a jury member for that particular awards function, insisted that I should come for the function. And since the Bhatts’ Aashiqui 2 was actually the beginning of my career in Bollywood, I couldn’t say no to him.”
He added, “I was working for Pritam da in my casuals and I had a flight to catch. So I went in my casual chappals and clothes to the function. I didn’t realise that a lot of people would feel I was insulting the function. I was on my seat and very tired. So I dozed off. As you know, these award functions go on for hours. When my name was announced for the award, someone had to wake me up. I know it was wrong. But I was tired and I dozed off.”
When asked why Salman took his reply personally, Singh had shared, “While I was walking up to the stage, they started capturing my images in my chappals and casuals. On stage, Salman Khan was laughing in disbelief saying, ‘Tu hai winner’ (You’re the winner)? When I got on stage, he asked me if I had fallen asleep. In my nervousness I blurted out, ‘Aap logon ne sula dia’ (you all put me to sleep). I immediately bit my tongue.”
Arijit said that the moment he got his award, he whispered ‘sorry’ into Khan’s ears. He later texted Salman from his flight and apologised. Singh said, “He texted me back saying I shouldn’t have gone so casually and I shouldn’t disrespect awards. I was happy that he rebuked me as a senior and that he had got the anger out of his system. I didn’t know he was still angry.”
