The Bombay regional office of the Central Board of Film Certification got a rude shock on 19th May when it was awakened to the fact that Pyaar Ka Punchnama was scheduled to hit the screens the following day. The shock was born out of the fact that the CBFC had ordered several cuts in the film but the producers, it is learnt, had applied the revised version of the film for censorship. In fact, the revised version had been seen by the Bombay office, but the certificate had not been issued. How then could the film be released on Friday, the CBFC officials wondered, when they hadn’t issued a censor certificate till Thursday. On enquiring, they realised what had happened. Sensing that the film’s clearance may take too long in
Bombay, which could, therefore, jeopardise the film’s release, the producers re-applied for censor certificate to the Madras regional office of the CBFC. And they got the censor certificate from there!
