Yash Raj Films, it seems, has a special liking for two major genres- romance and terrorism. Where YRF has given films like DDLJ, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi on one hand, it has also churned out films like Fanaa, Kabul Expressand New York on the other.

Kunal Kohli directed 2006 film Fanaa was about a terrorist in guise of a tourist guide who falls in love with a blind Kashmiri girl. Aamir Khan and Kajol played their roles brilliantly, and their sparkling chemistry was a major draw for the audiences. The film did well both critically and commercially, grossing more than 70 crores at the box office and earning itself a “superhit” status.

YRF then came up with Kabul Express in the same year as Fanaa. The film had John Abraham and Arshad Warsi in the lead roles. Director Kabir Khan’s first fictional film about two journalists reporting life in Afghanistan after the 2001 US invasions in the country was received well at the box office. Although not a huge commercial and critical success, Kabul Express garnered more than 25 crores worldwide.

In 2009, YRF and Kabir Khan again teamed up to deliver New York, starring John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Katrina Kaif and Irrfan Khan in important roles. The film grossed a mammoth Rs. 65 crores worldwide becoming the sixth highest grossing film of the year.
