She gained international fame by collaborating with Spanish director Luis Buñuel in films like Viridiana (1961), which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

In theater, Silvia starred in musicals like Mame and Annie Get Your Gun. She also became a producer and introduced Mexico to Broadway hits like A Chorus Line and Cats.
