Last year, when Bakaiti arrived, it arrived the exact way Gullak did! Gullak had peele chawal aka Tehri! And this show by Dice Media had Pani ki Tanki! This year, it returns with season 2 and the same Pani Ki Tanki that overflows, but no one in the family is swift enough to switch it off! The alarm keeps calling out, and the show brings another season of the Katarias, trying to lead a middle-class life efficiently with happiness!
For those who might have missed out on season 1, as we did, let me give a quick introduction! Katarias are a family of 5 and an extended family of 9. There are two Kataria brothers – Sanjay and Ajay, and their wives Sushma and Alka! While Sanjay, an advocate in Ghaziabad District Court, struggles financially, living in his ancestral house – Kataria Kutir with his wife, two children and father-in-law, Ajay is the financially sane one, taking care of the family’s ancestral furniture shop, living in a well furnished home in a posh locality with his son Aman, wife Alka, and a father, who passes away in season 1. After his passing away, the two Kataria brothers are bickering over the family property, and the show returns to season 2 with the same issues!
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What’s It About:
The story picks up from where it ended last. The elder Katarias are still struggling financially, while Ajay and his family arrive to live with them due to floods at their place! The season opens with a havan for family peace and prosperity that dissolves into brotherly bickering before the prayers are even done – a decent enough gag that promises the show still knows its own rhythms. From there, Sanjay Kataria (Rajesh Tailang) is buried under mounting expenses as he sends his daughter Naina (Tanya Sharma) off to Mumbai for her studies, eventually pushing him toward a loan he can’t really afford. Sushma (Sheeba Chaddha), meanwhile, wants to finally prioritize her own boutique, and son Bharat’s love life adds one more plate to the household’s already overloaded table.
The 9 Katarias together make for a bickering family drama. Do they win together as a family despite the fights? Do they choose happiness over pleasure in life? Do they prioritize bonds over finances? All these questions try to form the premise of this seven-episode season 2!
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What Works:
The series retains its slice-of-life charm, bringing everyday household chaos to the table! One day, everything goes wrong; the other, everything goes right! The kitchen politics, the room politics, the who is getting loved more jealousy, every stupid, silly family issue brings a smile. And that works in favor of this show! The dialogues are simple, episodes are quicker, and you do not feel the emotional baggage or heaviness watching it!
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: Star Performance:
Where the show does earn its keep is in the two leads. Rajesh Tailang is thoroughly convincing as a man quietly buckling under financial pressure, wearing Sanjay’s exhaustion without ever overplaying it. Sheeba Chaddha, even when handed thin dialogues, does a lot with her glances and a half-smile, and the chemistry between the two remains the show’s strongest asset. Tanya Sharma and Aaditya Shukla bring some youthful lightness to the subplots, and the supporting ensemble does its job of making the house feel lived-in rather than cast.

Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What Doesn’t Work:
The trouble with the show is that, despite having so many issues, none of these threads go anywhere. In every episode, a fight or a problem erupts, boils over, and then smooths out just in time for the next episode to bring a fresh crisis out of the same ingredients – money, ego, household chores. The builder subplot, which should’ve given Sanjay’s arc some real moral weight, gets rushed to a resolution that feels thin rather than earned.
The issue with Bakaiti S2 is that it clearly wants to sit in the Gullak tradition of finding drama in the ordinary, daily, mundane lives. But sitting in someone else’s tradition only works if you bring something new to it, and Bakaiti S2 mostly just recycles its own playbook. At this point, even Gullak is struggling to find its rhythm with the latest season. The same happens with Bakaiti. The conflicts repeat, the resolutions repeat, and the show seems to have mistaken a middle-class relatable crisis as something that the audience miraculously connects with without any powerful writing!
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: Last Words
Bakaiti season 2 offers brief moments of comfort through its nice ensemble, but it ultimately falls into the trap of overused middle-class tropes. Without strong writing to match the talents of Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang, this season remains a lukewarm follow-up that fails to leave a lasting impression.
Sheeba Chaddha and Tailang trade their bigger, bhaukaal-heavy universe of Mirzapur for this quieter middle-class canvas, and on chemistry alone, you understand why they keep getting cast together. But Bakaiti Season 2 falls into the exact trap Season 1 warned us about – mistaking repetition for realism, and this time around, the familiarity feels less relatable and more projected. But you can still watch it – It is worth it for the leads. Nothing much to ponder upon.
PS. No one, absolutely no one in this family is a Bakait to be honest! I have no idea why this is called Bakaiti!
