Mirzapur: The Movie has finally arrived in theaters after a long wait, and the fans who have been chanting Bhaukaal and swearing by it since 2018 are the happiest today! They get what they expected! A rowdy, raunchy, action film! But honestly, it has been quite some time, and I am exhausted looking at hands, heads, and legs being blown out of nowhere for no reason! However, does that change the fact that the fans loved the film? No, not at all. In fact, this is the rowdiest crowd I have seen this year in the theaters! The film is engineered, scene by scene, for the fans, and for them, it mostly delivers.
But strip away the loyalty to the fans, and what is left is a film that never quite trusts its star cast! The film has everyone from the Mirzapur Universe; in fact, it has some without any reason as well! But the basic blueprint of the film – the throne of Kaleen Bhaiya remains intact! However, it seems that this time, creator Puneet Krishna and director Gurmmeet Singh did not trust Pankaj Tripathi’s Kaleen Bhaiya much!
The master to the throne of Mirzapur: The Movie – Pankaj Tripathi’s Kaleen Bhaiya, looks all over the place in the film, which is oddly 3 hours long but one of the slowest action thrillers you might witness this year! In fact, the trio of Munna Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, and Kaleen Bhaiya looks significantly very small in front of the villain, Ravi Kishan, who is eyeing the throne of Mirzapur!
Mirzapur: The Movie Review: Script Analysis
The film is positioned as a prequel slotted between Season 1’s sixth and seventh episodes. And the film brings back everyone’s beloved Munna Bhaiya – Divyenndu, along with Guddu Pandit – Ali Fazal! The story is the same you have been listening to since three seasons of the film – the throne of Mirzapur getting attacked by other Baahubalis to get hold of the city! This time it is Babban Yadav from Jaisalmer (Ravi Kishan). Babban owns a drug syndicate and wants the throne of Mirzapur. The idea is smart on paper, but very poorly executed on screen! Almost nothing seems to happen in 3 hours except for unnecessary gunshots and abuses!
This is where the crux of the film shatters! It is strictly made to please the rowdy audience who whistle at a sex scene in a theater and hoot when an abuse is hurled in the name of mothers or sisters! Nothing new, nothing celebratory, but these fans do celebrate this alpha male they idolize!
Mirzapur: The Movie Review: Star Performance
While Pankaj Tripathi does not get much to do, Divyenndu shines in the film, and fans will love Munna Bhaiya’s return for sure! His one-to-one confrontations with anyone in the film are whistle-worthy! Meanwhile, Ali Fazal’s Guddu Pandit keeps oscillating between family, love, and goondagardi! As a result, he is all over the place, but nothing substantial comes his way! Jitendra Kumar tries way too hard to break Vikrant Massey’s memorable performance as Bablu Pandit! He somewhat wins at places but mostly struggles! The rest of the starcast – Abhishek Banerjee as Compounder, Shriya Pilgaonkar as Sweety, Shweta Tripathi as Golu are usually wasted!
The revelation here is Ravi Kishan as Babban Yadav! Loud, unpredictable, and clearly having a great time chewing through a role that could have been a very generic gangster. But I agree to choose Talent, applauds follow my friend! He brings a swagger the film badly needs whenever all the Tripathis and Pandits go bland!
Rasika Dugal and Mohitt Mallik’s arc could have been the weakest if the film had been strong! But ironically, their weak and unwanted arc turns the savior of Mirzapur: The Movie!

Mirzapur The Movie Review: Direction, Music
Everyone watching the film already knows who lives, who dies, and roughly how the power finally shifts hands, which turns most of the film’s big confrontations into an unending, boring stretch rather than a stylish action drama where things are at stake! The prequel, falls to the we know it all trap and sadly never makes a move to do something that is worthy enough of this Universe!
The major problem with the film is that Gurmmeet Singh makes Pankaj Tripathi’s Kaleen Bhaiya look almost invisible in the film! The one actor around whom this entire franchise was built looks meek and disinterested in the film! Moreover, he’s frequently sidelined in his own movie, and when he is on screen, the film doesn’t give him the strong partner he needs!
The only thing that will interest you in the film is Ravi Kishan’s Babban Yadav! He tries to hold an otherwise shoddy screenplay! Meanwhile, Rasika Duggal and her character arc save the climax of the film, much to everyone’s relief! The music of the film does add character to the world of Mirzapur. It is mostly repetitive and worth ignoring!
Still, the second half of the film, particularly the climax, is where the direction is most confident – bigger sets, swift editing, a good pace! The whole issue is getting. The film runs close to three hours, and a sizable chunk of the middle stretch is spent re-establishing power dynamics and rivalries that anyone who’s seen the show already understands in their bones.
Mirzapur The Movie Review: The Last Word
It’s not that Mirzapur: The Movie is handles script badly! The problem is it does not know what new to write in this script! You’re watching a world you already know extremely well, populated by people whose fates you already know, moving at a pace that assumes you need convincing all over again.
My heart breaks to write this but Pankaj Tripathi, the franchise’s central figure, is the most underused and underpowered actor in this film! Mirzapur: The Movie is exactly what it was built to be: a loud, well-mounted reunion tour for fans! As pure fan film, it works – the action is bigger, Ravi Kishan and Mohitt Malikk are genuinely valuable additions, and Divyenndu is as watchable as ever. But as a piece of storytelling, it stays so loyal to the world you already know that it rarely finds a reason to surprise you. The sluggish pace and repetitive writing make this a film tailored strictly for rowdy fans of the franchise.
